On re-reading your original post two sentences have struck me
"Joseph -iii- SMITH - before 16 Oct 1842 - Wicken, Northamptonshire, England" and
"to ELIZA/ELIZABETH READ - B: before 30 May 1819 at Deanshanger, Northamptonshire, England
f: George Read
m: Mary Walters"
This is the wheat, which has got lost among the chaff. What's the significance of the date 16 Oct 1842?
In 1851 living in Wicken were
George Read head marr 58 ag lab b Wicken
Mary Read wife 58 b Walton, Bucks
Joseph Smith grandson 8 b Wicken.
I assume this is the Joseph Smith to whom you are referring.
In 1861 he was an 18 year old apprentice in Potterspury, born Wicken.
Before I spend another two hours on red herrings can you confirm this is right Joseph, and perhaps you could tell us what other FACTS you have on him. Your best bet will probably be to purchase the marriage cert which we've already discussed, as Joseph wasn't living with his parents in 1851 - at least then you'll get fathers' names
