Hi Kathleen,

Would you be able to check Ancestry for a William MADIGAN, formerly a Private in the 68th Durham Regiment. A notice appears in the Daily Cross newspaper of 1 June 1867 advising that he had been committed for trial in Tauranga (NZ) on a charge of breach of the Arms Act for selling a govt rifle and 9 rounds of ammunition to a native, Arona.

I have checked a copy of the NZ Medal Roll, the list of men who took their discharge and remained in NZ, and a list of soldiers who served with the 68th in NZ but for various reasons did not receive a medal but have not found him on any of these lists.

I have also checked the NZ bdm records online and found a William Francis Madigan who died in 1894 age 47 years.

Thanks
Wendy
