Hi Kathleen,
Perhaps my inquiry was too short.I notice I sometimes get overwhelmed when I read inquiries of San Joaquin CA when trying to answer them.
BUT since you asked :-)....I shall now include more information for a longer inquiry:
1)Ann Sophia ( I do not know her maiden last name) was either born in England (info given from San Francisco death report of the cemetery record) or New York (given on her 2nd marriage record). She would had been born about 1835 as whe died Octoer 24, 1859 in San Francisco, California after giving birth to a little girl which the baby alsodied (within a month.).Her age was given in the newspaper 24 years old.
2) Ann Sophia Masterton (husband David Masterton) had 2 little girls in the Communipaw area of New Jersey...July 3, 1853 (Martha Washington Masterton) and Oct. 28, 1854 (Ella Isabelle Masterton.)
3)Ann Sophia Masterton accidentally killed her 1st husband David Masterton July 24, 1855, Bergen town, New Jersey.
4)Ann Sophia Masterton remarried 2nd time to David M. Gazlay in New York City at the Methodist Episcopal Church of New York City on November 4, 1858.
5) David M. Gazlay, a publisher/printer...sailed to San Francisco November 7 1859 on steamhiip Illinois.
6) Ann Sophia Masterton Gazlay followed him shortly afterwards with 2 daughters. While sailing, she met Rev. John C. Holbrook and wife Anne Holbrook.
7) Ann Sophia Gazlay became membr of the Congregational Church in San Francisco where Rev. Holbrook was substituting.
8) After Ann Sophia Gazlay died 1859 due to giving birth to baby, Rev. Holbrook and wife returned to New York. After a short time the two little girls returned to New York with companion Miss Snipe.
9) Rev. Holbrook and wife adopted the two girls.
10)Rev. Holbrook accepted a calling to Stockton California and there, he, wife and the two girls came to live.
11) Rev. Holbrook, wife, and one of the girls and her daughter and husband and my father and mother and now I (headstone already up) are/will beburied there in the same plot in Stockton, California.
And that's it in a nutshell :-)One other thing. In Anne Sophia Masterton Gazlay's obit of San Francisco, CA...it said to please note New York City, Jersey City, Philadelpha.
Boy, if you can help me further, I'm all ears!! Hope you can.~Adine from Stockton, Ca
