Found the earlier reference to the Wenniner children who immigrated apparently without adults in 1887.
The following post is from Don, in another forum; he's getting the information from some volunteer's post somewhere (so many forums involved it's hard to know where to look for the original). I don't know the year as typed is right...1887 seems late to be the immigration of "your" Fredric Wynnemer.
The post says this little family is from Germany; I had not remembered that!
"Hello, I am looking for descendants of the Wenniner family:
Bertha, b.1871
Aguste b.1878
Friedr b.1876
John b. 1883 .
These children ages 16-4 came from bremen, germany to Southamton to NY, NY, USA in 1887 on the ship Saale . If anyone has any info as to:
..who paid their way ?
who were their parents?
what became of them when they got to USA?
Etc.
Could any body tell me what was the standard practice of authorities in dealing with children of this age. I’M NEW AT THIS so if anyone has any e-mail addresses of gov. depts., please let me hear from you. I have a suspicion that Friedr. Wenniner became Frederic Wynnemer, but I don’t know how to prove it or disprove it. Any help appreciated."
