Wadsley Estate, Lincolnshire: Harry Ripley & Mary Marples
Thanks to David, Alex, Sandra, Jackie:
Harry Ripley's parents are yet unknown but a mystery unraveling. The purpose of this search is to help a good friend whose family tradition says that his grandfather may have been the illegitimate son of Edward VII. Harry was a clone of E. VII.A full-length portrait was painted of Harry and hung in Brighton, Nova Scotia; a sister has heirloom pieces of fine china that say Wadsley, believed to be from that estate. This is the timeline I have pieced together thanks to all of you!

Harry Ripley 29 brick layer born Coleby Lincilnshire
Mary A 29 born Carthorpe? Lincolnshire
Gertrude 2 born ----- Yorkshire
Francis W 1 born Scunthorpe
William Ripley 53 father married brick layerlab.born Coleby
+ 1 servant
Father William Ripley was married to Harriet Frow (findmypast.uk)
In 1881, this Harry was not living with his family, but was a servant in Thorne, age 18, born in 'Colby'.
In 1891 he lived in Worrall, Bradfield, Yorkshire with wife Mary A., children Gertrude, Francis, father William. Harry was listed as a bricklayer, born in Coleby, two things in common with Harry b. 1872.
In 1901, Harry Ripley age 38 lived in Scarborough, Yorkshire, more children with Mary A., builder & contractor, born in Coleby. Children: Gertrude, Francis, Bertram, Alice.
In 1911, Harry lived in East Butterwick, Burringham, Lincolnshire, age 49, bricklayer, wife Mary A., son Bertram. Harry born in Coleby, Lincolnshire.
So he can be accounted for through 1911 with the same wife and children, separate and distinct from your Harry.
Marriage #2 – or relationship: to Mary Marples born 20 May 1874 in England, (death certificate on novascotiagenealogy.ca:widow of Harry, died on 4 Oct 1948 at Brighton. Her father is named as John Marples.
1902: Birth of Violet Marples Dec. quarter of 1902. www.freebmd.org.uk - later AKA Violet Ellen Ripley
1905:Thanks to Alex, David, Jackie on GenForum
"There is a RIPLEY trio recorded in a slightly unusual manner, travelling to the "Cape" South Africa, departing 6th May 1905 from Southampton.
The modern/recent Transcription is rather vague; but if you VIEW the IMAGE of the original Manifest, (almost) all becomes clear."
Usually on those manifests, each person has a separate line, no matter age etc.
In this particular entry, the trio are all on the one line-
" Ripley Mr Mrs Miss".
Further over, there is a group of columns, generally headed "English".
That then breaks down into the following sub-columns (there are others, as well - all blank for this trio entry)-
"Age of each adult of 12 years and upwards"
"Married Male 1"
"Married Female 1"
"Ages of children between 1 and 12 years"
"Female 1"
As well as the other columns being empty, no First Names or Initials are recorded.
These certainly do not disagree with Mary's family in the subsequent 1911 Census, whilst the likely arrival date at the Cape leaves plenty of time in 1905 for the birth of another child that year.
