Smedley, Ratcliff in Manchester (?) in the early 1800's

Hello all,

My name is Jason Johns. I'm looking for my relatives in the Manchester area.

Firstly, I am looking for Joseph Smedley and Mary Ann Ratcliff who were allegedly married there between 1815-1820. I'm leaning towards the latter, because the first child, John R (Ratcliff?) Smedley, was (allegedly again) born in/around Manchester in 1821. The second was born a few years later in/around Manchester. This would be Benjamin Bucknell Smedley.

Secondly, I'm looking for Mary Ann Ratcliff's parents. All I have to go on for them are "family stories". Allegedly, they were John Ratcliff and Mary Jeffries. John was a "diplomat" to Holland (or possibly Denmark) and Mary Ann grew up there.

Finally, Jospeh and Mary Ann Smedley with their 6+ kids left England to go to America in 1830. They left out of Liverpool on different ships. I have those ship manifests, but am lacking info from before. After arriving in America they attended a Baptist church for 5 year and then he became a Baptist missionary/teacher to the Indians in what was later Oklahoma. So, he may have been a Baptist in the UK beforehand.

Therefore, any information on any of these topics would be very much appreciated.

Jason
