Hi Sue, I would find the local library nearest to where the family were before departure, and ask if they have a card index or can they help you with any additional info? You can do this on the Net. Often they will find something extra for you. There was a census in 1841 which may be of help.I have no idea how large Cowbir was in 1841/2!! They should also have a list of local researchers to send to you. I presume that like me you are interested in who was left behind and you may find clues in old letters/postcards/the history of the village they left behind, church records/burials/their occupations,. See if the local church is on the net- it's quite a thrill if you can find a photo. In one museum I found amongst that my olds someone had given a box of postcards that had been exchanged between the families, so try the Museum as well.I also found that in one village almost everyone was involved in needle amking : sharpening, etc sort of like putting holes in toothbrushes!!!! But it is all fascinating. Happy hunting!! Marlene Notify Administrator about this message?
