I have found some information on my father's side of the family that has proven most useful. However, I am confused about the differences between civil parish, town, county/island. My great-great-great grandfather, for example, came from Elsham, Lincolnshire, England. However, on Ancestry.com (where the information came from), it also lists the civil parish as Beaconsfield, the town as Beaconsfield and the county as Buckinghamshire and the registration district as Amersham with the sub-registration district being Missenden. Can anyone please help me to understand what all this means so that I can find more information on my ancestor. Thank you in advance for the help!

Linda
