Thomas BLACK married Sarah RICHARDSON on August 29, 1822, in Grantham. Sarah was bap. Aug. 3, 1800, Thurlby, daughter of John and Ann RICHARDSON. They lived in Barkston(e)-le-Willows, and Thomas was a schoolmaster and a small farmer at "Barkston Lodge". They had fourteen or fifteen children, all baptized in Barkston: Alice Jane, 1823; Josiah, 1824; John, 1825; Mary, 1826, married Rhodes ROUSE; Jacob, 1827, married Harriet; Thomas, 1829; Amelia, 1831, d. 1839; Sarah Ann, 1832, married Henry Martyn KING, d. 1909; John Isaac, 1834, m.1.Jane Ann KNOWLES, m.2. Sarah and Thomas BLACK were both still alive in Barkston at the 1881 census. He died in 1884 and is buried in Barkston. I descend through Sarah Ann BLACK and Henry Martyn KING's daughter Eliza, who married William BEVAN. I am in contact with some descendants of Martha BLACK and David OAKLEY. Glad to exchange further details with others researching this family. --Jane Elderfield Notify Administrator about this message?
