Hello Jennifer, The Latter Day Saints (LDS) have filmed wills, and indexes to wills, for Lincolnshire. I'd recommend first ordering the index to Lincolnshire wills to see if there is a listing for Frances Gleadle before searching through the actual wills themselves. If the index does show a will for Frances Gleadle, the date of the will would be noted, so that you would then be able to order the microfilm on which a copy of the will is found. Below is information and microfilm number for Lincolnshire will indexes from the Lincoln Consistory Court, for the years 1801-1858: Lincolnshire Archives index of Lincoln Consistory Court wills, 1801-1858 (up to 11 Jan.) Authors Lincolnshire Family History Society (Added Author) Notes Lincoln Consistory Court had jurisdiction over almost all the Lincolnshire parishes to the south and northeast of Lincoln. Eye readable title: L.A. index of Lincoln Consistory Court wills, 1801-1858. Lincolnshire Archives index of Lincoln Consistory Court wills, 1801-1858 (up to 11 Jan.) (6 fiches). FHL BRITISH Fiche 6393710 _____ The index can be found on microfilm number 6393710. You can order the microfilm from your local Family History Centre. You may be able to learn more information about William Gleadle however, from the Church of England parish registers of baptisms, marriages, and burials for the parish church of Hemswell. If William and his family (father, mother, siblings) belonged to the Church of England in Hemswell, the church registers may record your ancestors' christenings, marriages, and burials. If William Hemswell was not actually born in the parish, his baptism would likely be in the registers of another church. But if he had been married to Frances in Hemswell, there should be a church record of the marriage, which would provide you with Frances's maiden name. The marriage record may also provide you with the names of William's and Frances's fathers, but probably not their mothers. The Latter Day Saints have filmed the Church of England parish registers for Hemsewell covering the years 1683-1963. The LDS have also filmed the Bishop's Transcripts for the Hemswell Church of England beginning 1599. The Bishops Transcripts may actually provide more information about your ancestors than the church registers themselves. But, I'd recommend ordering the films covering the parish registers as well as the Bishop's Transcripts. Below is information and microfilm numbers for the Hemswell Church of England parish registers: Parish registers, 1683-1963 Authors Church of England. Parish Church of Hemswell (Lincolnshire) (Main Author) Notes Microfilm of original records at the Lincolnshire Archives Office, Lincoln. Contains baptisms, 1683-1885; marriages, 1684-1836; burials, 1683-1963; transcripts of some burials dated 1839. Parish registers FHL BRITISH Film 1450410 Item 4 _____ Next is information and film numbers for the Hemswell Bishop's Transcripts for the Church of England: Bishop's transcripts, 1599-1833 Authors Church of England. Parish Church of Hemswell (Lincolnshire) (Main Author) Notes Microfilm of original records at the Lincolnshire Records Office, Lincoln. Baptisms, marriages and burials 1599-1812 FHL BRITISH Film 504243 Item 2 Baptisms, marriages and burials 1813-1833 FHL BRITISH Film 507828 Item 2 _____ Films of the Church of England parish registers as well as the Bishop's Transcripts can also be ordered from the Family History Center. For more information about English parish registers and Bishop's Transcripts, go to the following link: http://freespace.virgin.net/owston.tj/parreg1.htm And, if you need further information about Lincolnshire records, go to the Lincoln Archives Family History link at: http://www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/section.asp?catId=6294 Also concerning your ancestors I located the christening record indexes of three children of William and Frances Gleadhill/Gleadle at the LDS website. The indexes show the children were christened in the Hemswell Church of England, and that the christening records come from the Bishop's Transcripts as noted above. Parish Church of Hemswell (Lincolnshire) _____ If William and Frances had more than three children, their christening records may also be in the Bishop's Transcripts or parish registers on the LDS microfilms. In addition I also searched for a marriage record for William and Frances at the LDS website, but did not find it. But, the LDS have not transcribed all the records from its microfilms to an online format, which means you'll still want to search the Church of England registers for their marriage records in Hemswell. Best of Luck with your research Jennifer. Dave Boylan Notify Administrator about this message?
