I have located information on my G-Grandfathers family after much searching and feel it is reliable but can not figure out how to get back from 1841. My GGrandfather was John Roby, born Jan 22, 1847 near Noble st., Great Bolton to Thomas Roby and Alice Isherwood Marsden Roby. They were married on Feb 19, 1844 at Bolton (have records) and listed Henry Roby as the father of Thomas. Alice died in 1848 when John was 1 yr 8 mo old (have record) from that point his father Thomas disappears but is believed to also have died as John was put in the Hendley/Pemberton Workhouse in the 1851 census. I have all his information from that point on. The marriage of Thomas and Alice show that both were previously married. I cannot locate another marriage for Thomas but in 1841 census he is living with his father Henry, age 60, a weaver on Dale Street, Bolton, page 13. On page 12 is Alice Marsden age 30 with 6 small children. Can this be my Alice? Seems like it is possible but there is another Alice Marsden with husband John in 1841 census at Blackburn, page 1, line 24. How can I trace back from Henry to find the mother of his son Thomas? This has been a hard search with John being in a work house so young, was leased out to a family in Blackrod where he grew up and married Ann Hulme and they came to America in 1879. Any suggestions and help would be so appreciated.
