In Reply to: Samuel Popplestone c 1866, South Devon by Roger Evans of 2606

The 1871 census shows Samuel living very near the Start Lighthouse, as a farmer of 376 acres.
He was aged 39 and was born in Plymstock. His wife, Sarah, was 25 and born in Kingsbridge. There was also an 'assistant' staying with the family by the name of Anna Popplestone, aged 27, born in Wembury, Devon. Other than that they had one visiting Sunday School teacher and four servants living at the house.

(Ref RG10 piece 2100 folio 62 page 14)

If it's of any use, I have tracked down Samuel in the 1851 census:

Head: POPPLESTONE, Richard               Neighbors 53759

I also did a bit of delving around to see just who the 'Anna' Popplestone was, and I came to the conclusion that she was a cousin called 'Hannah' - the family seemed to have originated over in the Wembury/Plymstock area.

This was then confirmed when I searched the 1881 again:
