We are looking for the Ancestors and Relatives of Paul Gustav ENGEMANN b. 1863 and Hedwig BEYER ENGEMANN b. 1865. They were born in Germany in Silesia.
Here is a brief History of the Engemann's in the United States.
When Hedwig Beyer ENGEMANN's young husband Paul Gustav ENGEMANN died at the early age of 40 in 1903, she was left without a means of supporting her four children because Paul's business, a "Beer Garten" in the town
of Schweidnitz, Silesia, Preuss went to his partners or brothers (which
we do not know).
Being a spiritual person, Hedwig said a prayer, and felt inspired to
venture into the New World to seek her fortune. She left her home in
Silesia to look for work in the United States. She spoke not one word
of English but undaunted set sail for her new home. She left her
children with relatives until she could send for them. Hedwig was 38
years old.
The young widow made her way to Green River, Utah where she worked as a
cook in the mining camps.
In 1908 she sent for her children. However, her eldest daughter Mary
only 16 had gotten married and was set to stay behind in Germany. The
other four, Herbert 15, Margaret 14, Carl 13 and Paul Robert 10 set
sail to reunite with their mother.
Grandmother Engemann worked hard and earned enough money to send all her
children to college. Carl Engemann fought in W.W.I and was killed.
Herbert graduated from MIT and later married, no children. Margaret
also went to MIT where she met a renown physicist Norbert Wiener, they
had two girls. Paul married Lillias Nicholas and they had four
children. Karl, Jean, Robert and William Herbert.
Paul's children were born just outside Detroit in Livonia. Karl served
in the Army and after went to BYU along with Robert. The family moved
to California to the Los Angeles area. Karl became the VP with Capitol
Records and then moved on to manage the Osmonds. He currently manages
Marie Osmond.
Karl and his wife Gerri have five children. Robert (Bob) started a
group with his friend Jim Pike and they began the famous singing group
"The Lettermen". Bob and his wife Betty have four children. Jean
married Ed King, a financial advisor and CFO and they have four
children. William (Bill) began in the entertainment industry and
handled special events. He married had five children. He later
divorced and married Kathryn. Kathryn had four children and together
they have nine.
Hedwig's progeny now numbers 78.
We are looking to find our cousins that were left in Germany. Marie Luise's Children and Uncle's and Aunt's on the Engemann line. We have lost contact with Marie Luise's children. We want to find our roots in
Silesia which is now in Poland.
