Jim- Just found your g-grandfather and your g-g-grandfather and your g-g-g-grandmother!
1900 U.S.Census, Richmwood Twp., Becker Co., MN, Pg. 142A, Enumeration District 16:
27/27
ENGBERG, John P., Head, W/M, Apr 1841, Age 59, Married 22 years, Born in Sweden, both parents born in Sweden, Farmer, Owns Mortgaged Farm.
ENGBERG, Christine, Wife, W/F, May 1857, Age 43, Married 22 years, Born in Sweden, both parents born in Sweden, mother of 10 children/10 alive at this time.
John immigrated to the U.S. in 1869 and has lived in U.S. for 31 years and is naturalized. Christine immigrated to the U.S. in 1878 and has lived in the U.S. for 22 years. There are nine children in their household, ages ranging from 1-21 and all born in MN, including your Peter A., Son, Dec 1889, age 10.ALSO in the household is Catherine, mother of John, born Jan 1815, age 85, widow, 4 children born to this mother and 2 are alive; Catherine was born in Sweden and both her parents. She immigrated in 1878 and has been living in the U.S. for 22 years. NEXT DOOR is Clara ENGBERG, born Jan 1852, widow, mother of nine children, nine alive; she immigrated in 1878 and has lived in the U.S. for 22 years. Also children are listed in her household. What does this census tell us? That it is very likely that Catherine and her husband and children (including Clara's deceased husband) all immigrated together to the U.S. in 1878 and that John probably met his wife Christine in MN and married her there since they did not immigrate in the same year but all their children are born in MN.Your family was in the U.S. in 1880 so that would be the next place to look for John P. ENGBERG and his parents.Good luck on your research!Jeanne Johnson
