George Emptage 1857 -- Lifesaver

Hi folks:

I am a a researcher for an auction firm, currently cataloguing for public sale a silver Presidential lifesaving medal awarded to George Emptage in 1857 for his efforts in the rescue of the "Northern Belle" off Kingsgate, George and brother Edward Emptage were on the "Mary White" at the time. I would very much appreciate any information about George Emptage or his heroic rescure, and I would happily add a credit line for any information used. If anyone would like a copy of the finished catalogue or more information about the medal, please feel free to ask.

As I am not a regular on the list, please email me at

Thank you all for your help. It would be marvelous, in my opinion, if this medal ended up back in the hands of Mr. Emptage's descendents.
