"JOHN BUCKLEY (1646-1732)
New Castle County: 1697
John Buckley was born 1646 in the English county of Wilt-
shire. He immigrated into New Castle County by 1682. He was the son of John and Mary (Empson) Buckley. He married twice: first to Hannah Sanderson, and, second, to Elizabeth Sanderson. By Hannah, he had four children: Rachel, who married John, son of Jonn Grubb; Sarah; Hannah, who married Thomas Layton; and Adam, who married Ann Martin. By Elizabeth he had seven chiidren: John, who married (1) Hannah Clemson, and (2) A1ice Lownes; Hannah, who married J.Price; Jane, who married J. Hillyard;
Walter; Elizabeth; Adam; and Ann.
Buckley was one of the surveyors of the circular northern
boundary of New Castle County.
John Buckley's religious affiliation is not certain; it is known he was not a Quaker. He owned land along the Delaware River and Naaman's Creek. In 1687, he was taxed on 100 acres., He died in 1732."
