Hi Linda:
thanks for the info about Fred and his family. My grandfather, Horace B. Emmons, was Fred's first cousin: their fathers were the brothers, Benjamin C. and Howard P..It was Howard who married Minnie E. Achorn and died ae 49 in 1909.At that time there were acrimonious words passed between Ben and Minnie over the settlement of the brothers' father's estate by their mother the year before. It was to go on for a while. However, all touch was lost as a result of the casualty return which showed that a Fred Emmons had died in 1918 while serving in France. My grandfather and his father thought that it was "cousin" Fred who had died.As it turns out the casualty is a much more distant cousin, but noone in the family bothered to check further until I verified the identity of the casualty and found that he was not the son of Howard P. as presumed. The five children on Frederick J. would be my father's second cousins, and nearest emmons kin.Unfortunately, my dad died late last year and I and my son are the last of our line at the present time (he's still single).
It would be a great help to correspond further with you about this and perhaps to get in touch with my third cousins.By the by, the originator of this query, cousin Sid, put this in at my instigation. He's my fifth cousin once removed. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
best regards, George
