Brenda,
You have received information on the passenger manifest showing seven Hogls. Note that the full name of the vessel was George Hurlbut. You mentioned an Anne Neumeyer. She does not show but a Jacob Neumeyer, age 28 and a farmer, was on the George Hurlbut and also from Bavaria. You can view these results at the following website:

Click the Search tab in the upper left area. There you can find your Hogls. Actually, you can see the whole manifest by entering only the name of the ship and putting 1852 in both date boxes. You will bring up the the manifest names for both this voyage in June and for one later that year.
You mentioned the canal across Pennsylvania. PA was envious of New York's Erie Canal so they wanted one across their state. The challenge was getting across the Allegheny Mountains. They buit rail lines up and over. The canal boats were built in about three sections and when the west-bound boat arrived in the Holidaysburg basin, they were disassembled and placed on cradles on railroad wheels. These then were pulled up the mountain side by engines. There were about five engines on each side. Then lowered by gravity on the west side and reassembled. You can see a picture of this at the following website:
