I just got Brian Mitchells book a few days ago.
John Isaac Mcneely/McNeily was not in the passenger list, but his entry in the St. John New Brunswick record to the hospital indicating "Fever" showed he had been on the
Doctor Kane.
There were others after him with fever and on the Doctor Kane- I have to find out if they were on the passenger list.
Family history tells us he was a ferry boat captain in Dublin before he came to St John about 1847/8. So I assume he was crew on the boat.
I will try the local Maritime History Archive in St JOhn's NL and see if they have any crew list for him.
