$50 was much more than the average immigrant would have had with them. However again this was not the sum that Mary had, that was the person on the line above her.
Interesting to note that the line with the financial info states $200 but above that is written $10 and where it asks who paid for her ticket is written "cash dpt". Also interesting is everyone below her seem to be connected in some way. Was she part of that group?
Having 1 US Dollar in those days would be like having more than $21 2008 US Dollars ! Had that person with $50 1908 US Dollar be traveling today their money would be worth about $1,050 !
