Actually, I'd check out one last thing. It was quite common during the 19th century for states to do their own censuses mid-decade. I'd check and see if Kentucky did so, and if yes, then which year. In the midwest, most states that I've researched did it either four or five years out from the federal census (ie 1854 or 1855). They were also much more detailed and gave every member of the HH, as opposed to the early federal censuses which only listed the adult male HOH and then counted everyone else just under categories. If you can find him there, you might also figure out who he lived with and near. That's always a good present.
