Janet, I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I found your ggm's manifest. She was on the Carmania. Not only did the Ellis Island site screw up, so did the NARA indexing of the arrival date. According to NARA, arrivals on September 24 should be on T715-1146. The Carmania manifest sheets are actually on T715-1147, which NARA index says is for arrivals September 25. Her infomation is on T715-1147 Frame 923. The bad news is that is is almost unreadable. The best I can make out is that her fare was paid for by her aunt and she was going to Bridgeport. It also looks like she said she had been in the U.S. before, and it appears that she was. She appears to be the Florence who arrived in 1899 with Emma Kidd. (Could she be the aunt?) They were going to Emma's home at 227 E. Main St., Bridgeport CT. In the 1900 census, taken on June 8, George and Emma Kidd are at 593 E. Main St., Bridgeport with their son Charles, age 14 and an Austrian-born servant whose name appears to be Acura Stezl. No sign of Florence who had arrived with Emma the previous July. Connecticut, Fairfield County, Roll 132 Book 2, Page 31 But, with a little more searching, we find Florence. She is living a few blocks away with the family of Richard Appleton and his wife Sarah at 18 Curtis Lane. Connecticut, Fairfield County, Roll 132 Book 2, Page 44 She is listed as niece. Hopefully this is helpful and answers more questions that it poses. You might see if your regional NARA has a better copy of the film, or if you can get it through ILL at your local library.
