Searching for parents of James William Emery/Hembree, b. 10/1869, Sevier Co., TN, d. 8/1934, Harper Co., Kansas. (I think his father was a Hembree) James' obit listed a 1/2 brother and sister still living in 1934. (Poss. Callaway, b. 1863, & Elizabeth, b. 1867?) Also,obit listed 4 deceased/4 living children.
James married 2X. Wife #1, Sarah Catherine Dunlap, b. 9/1869, Blount Co., TN, d. b/t 1903-1909,from TB or childbirth. They had 5 children that I know of and poss. 2 more that died as infants, and 1 unknown. Living: Thenie, b. 5/1891, m. Ode Hammock; Pearl, b. 3/1898, m. Jim Smith (1st) & Jim Lyles(2nd); Ida, b. 2/1900, m. Lon Swatzel; Benjamin, b. 8/1903, m. Gertrude Leach (my grandparents). Deceased: Richard, no info; Bitha (Abitha or Tabitha), no info; Martha, b. 1895, m. James Abbott. I do not have a name or anything on the 8th child.
The children were separated when Sarah Catherine died & were raised by family members. Ben was raised by older sister, Thenie. Martha, I think, raised by my G-G-grandfather, but no info avail. w/ regards to him being from Martha's mother or father's side of family.
My grandfather's (Ben)generation, has always claimed a name change from Hembree to Emery. When? No one knows. Any help at all would be most helpful and appreciative.
