The Emery brothers who were doctors, four (the fifth was an attorney who died at a young age) were born in MA and New Hampshire. They (except for Daniel) removed to Ohio and then to Illinois (one stayed in Ohio). Dr. George Reid emery eventually moved to Kansas late in life. He was the first doctor between Freeport and Rockford Illinois. "Pioneer Life in the Family of George Reid Emery" outlines the history of the family. A copy can be obtained from the Ashtabula co. Historical Society, the Freeport IL library, or the Sutro Library in San Francisco. I have an old handtyped copy and a copy of the published version from Sutro. It was written by the second youngest daughter, Viance, with help from her oldest sister, Candace, and published in 1924. Candace was my gggrandmother. She lived to be 96 1/2 and died in Elwood NE at the home of her son Henry Brown Daniels. Henry was married to Elizabeth Mallory whose father was Jasper Benjamin Mallory. Lizzie died of TB in 1891 leaving Henry with two young sons. Candace married first John Daniels who died in 1859 leaving Candace with six children. She married second William Z Tunks.

I have numerous pictures of the family including a nice one of Dr. George Emery taken when he was 62.

Dr. George Reid Emery went to medical school at NY University. He began his practice in Gueaga co OH (Thompson's Ledge.) His son Dr John Emery remained in Ohio and son Dr. Josiah Bartlett emery administered to an Indian Tribe and moved with them for a time.

The original Dr. Josiah Bartlett was a relative and was the first governor of New Hampshire and the second to sign the Declaration of Independence. Cpt John Emery, father of the five boys and three daughters, married Susannah Bartlett. Not only were they cousins but were first and second cousins of Dr Josiah Bartlett. Dr. Josiah Bartlett married his first cousin, mary Bartlett. They were all descendants of John Emery who came to America in 1635 on the James of London and settled in Newberry MA. He is considered a pioneer of Newberry.

And, to confuse things, susannah Bartlett's father was also named Josiah. Susannah is buried in Vt. John Emery is buried in Union Cem near the grave of Capt Alexander Harper, the first white man buried in Northern Ohio. Dr John Jr emery married Harper's granddaughter, elizabeth Wheeler.

Incidently, Omri was named after Dr George Reid Emery's brother in law, Omri Willey..... Candace Willey was Dr George first wife, and mother of my Candace. Dr George Emery married Polly Stevens second. Her sister lived in Illinois and is one of the reasons the family moved there.

Candace named one son, Omri Emery Daniels. Omri ended up in Colorado.

I have several pictures of Omri Willey Reid emery and one of his home in Decorah Iowa. You have have seen one of them taken at the World's Fair in NY.

I have posted a number of the pictures on ancientfaces.com as have several of your husband's cousins.
