Thanks for your attempts to help me. Unfortunately this isn't the story I was referring to. I wish it were the right story though. I'm looking for a Charles that was a Charles Patch and moved (afraid for his life)due to seeing something awful happen and changed his name to Emory. I'm not sure why the name Emory was chosen. Initially Lynne Shell posted a very similar story. The only difference being that several men left Maine together because of what they witnessed. I only heard that my ancestor left for that reason. Thanks again.
