Leslie,
I am a decendant of the Emery/Maddocks family. Last year this time, we rented the old "Homestead" that was built by the Emery's back in 1782 which was the first house built in Owl's Head. This was the same house my mom grew up in in 1919. She said just once before she died she wanted to be able to stay in it again. We were able to have a family reunion there as many of the siblings have never been in the house, even those that have always lived in the Camden/Rockland area. We went to the cemetary that is right down from the house where some of the Maddocks/Emery/Merriams are buried. My grandmother was Hattie Small Emery-Merriam is buried.
We were very close to Joe Merriam that lived in San Diego, Calif. We found a picture in the house that we had copied that must have been Harrison Emery and his 5 children, one of which was Clara Emery who married and her husband was the lightkeeper of the Owls Head light house. I sure learned a lot about the area and family. One of the Emery daughters in-law still lives in the house across the street from the "homestead".
