Haseltine, daughter of William and Nabby (Emery) Haseltine of Pembroke, NH. He was a direct descendant of John Emery of Newbury, Mass (1598-1683). Matthew Gault Emery was President of the Second National Bank of Washington, D.C. He served as Mayor of Washigton, D.C in the 1880s. He had five children: 1) Clara Kate, 2) Matthew G., 3) Juliette Haseltine, 4) William R., 5) Mary Abbie. Matthew G. Emery was Mayor, but not Governor, of Washington, D.C. The District of Columbia has never had a Governor, the U.S. Congress is the "Governor". There was only one Emery who was a Governor; George Emery who was appointed Governor of Utah in 1875. Emery County, Utah bears his name. Sarah Emery of Maine married the Hon. Hannibal Hamlin who was Governor of Maine, twice US Senator and Lincoln's first Vice-President. After Sarah Emery Hamlin died Hannibal Hamlin married her younger sister Ellen Emery.
