By accident in ran accross a story about the 26th Emery Family reunion held in the Hotel
Vendome in Boston. The story in the Boston Transcript Sept 16, 1907 offers a brief history of the emerys..."The menu card bore an excellent half-tone picture of the abbey at Romsey, Eng., and the records of which contained that of the baptism of John Emery on March 29, 1599. Not far from this abbey lies New Forest, in which is the hamlet of Emery Down, widely known as the home of Lord Palmeraton and also Florence Nightingale and where many generations of Emerys have lived."
I happened to be researching my Mallory line, but it caught my eye as Candace Emery's son, Henry Daniels, married Elizabeth J. Mallory. Candace, daughter of Dr. George Reid Emery b Walpole, NH 1791 and Candace Willey. Dr. George's father was John Emery and mother, Susanna Bartlett, granddaughter of Josiah Bartlett, First Governor of New Hampshire and the first person after John Hancock to sign the Declaration of Independence. Dr. George was already a second cousin of Josiah. John Emery son of John Emery and Mary Webster had married Abigail Bartlett b 14 Apr 1653 in Newbury. Interestly, Hanna Emery b 23 Apr 1654 married Richard Bartlett. Hannah was daughter of John Emery and Mary Webster.
That inbreeding, of course, explains plenty.
Happy New Year. Mallory Smith
