My grandmother was Alice Lydia Emerick, daughter of Granville, son of William, son of Michael. She recieved a letter from lawyers in the 1930 claiming she was a descendant of Christopher Emerick and all she had to do was send the lawyers money and she could be a part of the law suit. I found in my research that we are not descendant of Christopher but from Andrew Emerick, his son John Emerick is the father of Michael. I grow up hearing this story about how the Astor family cheated the Emerick's out of money. My grandmother even had a book called The Unwritten chapter of John Jacob Astor. We can not find it now. It was a fun "story" to hear growing up. The story was the John Jacob Astor was an orphen found and raised by John Nicholas Emerick. John Nicholas brother John Christopher married his sweetheart and John Nicholas got angry and left his money to Astor family for 100 years. The "will" was not found until 120 years later. People were brought to New York to testify, checked into a hotel then disappeared.
Nice "story" but not true.
