My grandfather, Joseph Mitchell Embler was born in 1882, I believe. I was named after him and I go by "Mitch" as he did. He had 11 children, some who are still alive. These include John Embler, David Embler, Connie Embler Poore, Eudie Embler Marler and Joseph Clifford (JC)Embler. All reside in the Buncombe County area. JC is my father. Of the 11 Embler children, only my father had sons to carry on the Embler name from this branch of the family. Myself, and my brother Jeff have one son each to carry on this branch of the family. I currently reside in Roy, Utah and my brother is in Asheville. My grandfather was a Southern Baptist minister and a farmer all of his life, and I barely remember him. My grandmother died when I was very young and I do not remember her at all. This branch of the family grew up during the depression era and were very poor. Unfortunately, this led to many of the offspring of my grandfather choosing to not develop families. Of the remaining members of the original family from my grandfather, the youngest is 73. That is my father JC. My uncle David still lives on the farm that all of the Embler children were born, in Alexander, NC. He is 74 and still farms and raises cattle. The farm has been in the family for about 150 years and some of the original buildings are still in place. Emblers are a tough breed. If you do not know, the road that runs through the family farm is named "Embler Road". In addition to the Emblers, there is an extended other family that resides within less than a mile. This is the Griffin family, which is my grandmothers side of the family. The remaining children of my grandfather are pretty much simple country people, but are very hospitable and welcoming. Perhaps you may have a chance to visit them.
I would very much like to speak with you concerning the Embler family history.
I can be reached at 801-774-9979 or by cell at 801-556-2510. I travel frequently, so the cell may be the best bet. Of course, there is always email.
