Hello:
Charles Ely was my great-grandfather. His wife Carrie was from Prussia. Her last name was Moltzner. His son Kirk's wife's maiden name was Inga Marie Matson. Her mother was from Norway. Charles had two other children Alfred Sully Ely and Mamie Ely whom I believed died quite young.
My father is Mason Ely. He is the last living child of Kirk and Inga Marie. He had two brothers Alfred and Ray and a sister Mina.
My name is Geoffrey Mason Ely.
If your great-great-grandfather is Charles Ely you must be the grandson of Ray and Wilma Ely and the son of one of the four people mentioned here: Mason "Buzz"; Edith; Charles; or Ray. Ray Sr. and Wilma resided for many years in Wayne, Pennsylvania outside Philadelphia. He passed away in 1988 near Wilma's childhood home in Kansas. Ray was my uncle. I met him only two or three times. The last time was in the mid sixties.
Hope this helps. By the way I have some incredible transcripts between Charles Ely and his mother and between his mother and his grandmother during the Civil War. The originals I believe are held by the Moltzner family and I have no information about them.
Hope this helps.
