Susanne When I have more time I will try to support the basis of my opinion. I am reasonably certain your William is not a son of William-Stoops union. Primarily because they had another son either the 1st born or 2nd born who was named William. He did not go west, but stayed in western PA. I thought your William may have been a grandson of that union however, I am certain that is not the case either. If your William was born 1798 then the woulld have to have been a son of William/Stoops son William or Robert, since they were the only male children old enough to have a child born in 1798. However each of the had a son William and each remained in western PA. Having said that I don't believe your William was a son of Robert either, primarily because of the age. In my opinion based on limited evidence I suspect your William may have been a grandson of Robert. I have a short sketch in a local history that asserts that position. I forget which of Robert's son was deceased. It alleges he was taken west with an uncle. Since it is a short sketch I can scan it and email it to you if you were able to read Willaim's will that was attached to my previous email Bob Ellwood
