William Elwood (abt 1758-1832)continued

We do know he purchased land, "on the head Waters of Turtle Creek in Franklin Township" November 25., 1815 for $12.72 from William Stills which had been surveyed under a warrant. He took title in his own name not at all uncommon in those days. The tract is 166 acres and 8 perches. I assume it was vacant with no improvements. I have scanned a copy into a bmp file if any one is interested, I can attach it to an email. .I acquired my copy from the Dept of Community Affairs recorded in H Book Volume 16 page 11.

Elsie Warden mentions that the original deed is recorded on sheep or goat skin and in the possession of Willam J. Elwood of Export Pa, a descendant of William's son Robert. The history was written in the 1920's. I wonder where the original deed is now. I hope it still is in existence and being carefully preserved. Are there any descendants of William J. who may know of the whereabouts of the deed?

I always wanted to see the tract and find out if it is still a farm. Who owns it now?. What is the chain of title from William to Robert to the present time. Recently, I learned that there was some unfortunate history and dealings among the family regarding this tract, which resulted in a sheriff's sale. I'd like to know more about that chapter.

I have a deed reference to 119-100-1883 a 3 page deed and the searcher stated AP Elwood & wife Martha, Edward H. Elwood & Henry D. Neister with wife Alice Jane Elwood conveyed land in Franklin township, 129 acres. She then quotes the recital clause "conveyed by Robert Elwood & wife to William G. Elwood and cites partition book PN 32-462. The grantors were children of William G. who died in 9/3/1855. But is this the homestead or other property owned by Robert that was sold to William G. . If anyone has a copy of the referenced deed and partition I would like a copy. Somewhere I reads after Robert inherited the homestead he sold his tract which was adjacent to the homestead property.
