Elwood Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Fran, I believe the Robert Ellwood you mention is my great great great grandfather. I nearly fell of my chair when I saw your post. I grew up in the area (Westmoreland County) and could never get a straight answer from anyone concerning ancestry, So I have taken it upon myself to find out as much as I could. I walked nearly every cemetary in the area. The tombstones of Robert and his wife once stood in Poke Run Cemetary, I remember seeing them. Along with thiers, the tombstones of at least six other Ellwoods have disappeared in the last five years. Two of those old stones had dates from the 1700's. The cemetary records and perhaps other family records were alledgedly sold before I was able to examine them. Poke Run was one of the first Presbyterian Churches in this area. For years I was told that the two "l's" meant that it was another family.
