Hi Kenneth,

There are Elwood/Ellwood families both from England and Ireland. The people from the Irish line know their emigrant. My Elwood family - who came over earlier -we suspect is from England. My Elwood's are traced back to the 1600s in Old Fairfield County, Connecticut, then migrated to New York State. Some went on to Vermont and Pennsylvania and thereabouts, but mostly to New York, then westward homesteading in Illinois, in Nebraska and spread out even more. My grandfather then went on to homestead in Oklahoma just after it became a state. My Elwood family goes back from me this way,

Me
daughter of James William Elwood and Ethel Marie Bale
son of James Straight Elwood and Margarett Johnson
son of James Curtis Elwood and Sallie Stiles
son of Nathaniel Brooks Elwood and Altana Curtis
son of Abraham Elwood and Sarah Brooks? Johnson
son of Richard Elwood and Rachel Davis
son of John Elwood and Elizabeth Godfrey
son of Joseph Elwood and Mary Stackhouse
possibly the son of Ralph Ellwood from England

The Oklahoma family says there are related Elwoods in Texas, Missouri, Florida and other southern states, but don't know the connection at this point. Who and where are your Elwoods. Perhaps we can compare....

Helen Elwood Conachan
from Oklahoma, Kansas, California and Oregon
