Dear Fran,
I just posted an answer to Bill Elwood you might read. Tigard is really close to Beaverton.

Yes, our Elwood's are in Washington too. Briefly:

My father was JAMES WILLIAM ELWOOD, son of JAMES STRAIGHT ELWOOD of Oklahoma, who was the son of JAMES CURTIS ELWOOD of Nebraska, son of NATHANIEL BROOKS ELWOOD of Chenango County New York. After moving to Nebraska, my Grandfather went on to Oklahoma, and his brother (interesting...also named Nathaniel Brooks) went to Lynwood Washington. I kept hearing we were not related to the Washington Elwoods, but my elderly Aunt Flossie Elwood VanWinkle, now deceased, knew her Uncle "N.B." had gone the Lynwood.

Then I met a wonderful lady, a distant cousin from Moravia, NY who has filled in out Elwood line back to Abraham and Sarah Elwood of Connecticut.

Tell me about Louisa Hill Ellwood and her husband William James (just the opposite of my father's name.) Family seemed to use the names James and Curtis a lot.

I am very happy to share the information I have so let's stay in touch.

Helen Elwood Conachan
in Beaverton, Oregon
