Elwood/Klock Stone House Controversy, NY
Posted by: Sharilyn Whitaker Date: September 13, 1998 at 15:45:47
  of 860

There is documentary evidence that the builder of what is known now as "Ft.Klock",
in St. Johnsville, New York, said to have been built by Johannes Klock, was actually the work of Richard ELWOOD, who built it in 1750. Records exist of him being paid by Sir William Johnson for having built it, and of him having purchased property where the stone house stands. An attempt is being made to settle this question and return the name
to "The Elwood/Klock Stone House", and right the wrong being done to Richard Elwood and his accomplishment. For more information please contact me.
