hi abby,
I think that Martha's brother John was 10 years younger than 'your' John. I also think that 'my' John is listed on the 1851 census as 'Thomas'. My John died in 1861 and he was the illegitimate son of margaret Roxburgh. I can't find a death for Daniel/David, but he had a child with Margaret Moffat, (c1852), so I think he died shortly after that. The only other Elvin I can find in Dryfesdale is a William elvin died 1822 aged 32 and his wife Agnes McCallum died 1834 aged 46, (on a grave). Please do e-mail. I have only just found out Helen Williamson Dodds came from Dryfesdale and just seem to hit wall after wall with them. I really need the help!
