Regarding your grandfather's Aunt "Betty", this is surely Betsy Reed, b.1828, married at some time to Elijah Eltzroth. They moved to Illinois from Ohio and had 8 or 9 children as follows: Charles b.1846 short-lived; Fannie b.1850, married Luther Fitch, 6 kids all but one (Ida) predeceased Fannie; Forrest b.1853, married Carrie Reed, son Frank b.1878, possible son Loyal 1889-1911; Mary b. 1858 short-lived; Arthur b.1860 married Frances Nowlan, son Willard b.1897 (grandson Willard Junior b.1930 may be alive in AZ) and daughter Clara b.1887 married Price; George b.1862 married Fannie Yillet, son Morton b.1886; Clara b.1864 married Charles Snyder, possible son Fred; Ellwood known as "Mike" b.1866, married Lulu Kinney, no kids. Lulu Kinney was my great aunt, my ma's aunt on her pa's side. My own sister b.1930 and very much alive knew both the Willard "Burt" Eltzroths, but I was very young and do not remember them. Betsy Reed Eltzroth's obit is on the Stark County website, credits her with 9 kids but I only know the 8 listed above. My sources are quite diverse and not necessarily reliable.

There was another interesting Eltzroth, one Jonas, in Stark County. He died there in 1866, having left grown children back in Ohio and moved to Illinois around 1850. He was an uncle to Elijah. While in Illinois he married (1857) the widow Maria Beal Ridgway, who had at least three children, in fact three still at home. Maria, two of her sons, and both her husbands are buried together in Lafayette Cemetery.

I'm very curious who was your grandfather? Was he someone I've named? Or was he a Reed? Notice there are two Reeds in the story--I don't know the relation if any between the younger (Carrie) and Betsy. There are also two Clara Eltzroth's. I'm especially curious about the older one, because another great aunt ELLA Kinney also married a Snyder (Herbert) in 1890. I know nothng of him and only a little of her: she married twice more and was eventually killed in an auto accident in San Antonio in 1930, buried in the Toulon Mausoleum next to Mike and Lulu under the name Nellie Bly Rawstrom. My ma always called her "Auntie Bly", but until recently I didn't even know whose aunt she was--in fact I more or less assumed she was an Eltzroth, but it turns out not so and what I've said about her in this note is completely reliable.
