The "2005-2006 Selections from Inventory" catalog of Joan R. Brownstein Antiques pictures an excellent portrait of Kate Elting, New Paltz, NY, in 1824. Kate appears to be about 25 years old in this portrait, plus or minus 5 years. The inventory catalog is printed on newsprint so the reproduction is not the best it could be.

This fine portrait should be made known to the Elting family. I am scanning it in case any of the Elting descendants might like a copy, either by email or by postal mail. Someone in the Elting family ought to have it--it is too good to be missed by the family. It may not have extensive genealogy value, but it certainly does have a whole lot of family and historic value.

No other information about Kate is available in the catalog, not even if Elting is her maiden or married name.

This portrait is also displayed in color on the dealer's website (at least for a while, since the painting has been sold) at: http://www.joanrbrownstein.com/
The painting is in color & much better reproduced on this website.

My email address can be found by clicking on my underlined name above. Please respond by EMAILING ME DIRECTLY and not by posting a reply on this genforum site, which I might not see.

If it were a portrait of a Pease family member, I'd certainly want someone to do the same for me.

Bill Pease, Lancaster, PA
