hello. my name is connie langston.i am from the georgia elsberry family line. i am ofcourse from one of the two elsberry brothers who left north carolina for wilkes county,georgia in the late 1700's.i am the great-great granddaughter of lindsay elsberry who was the original land surveyor for the small town that became ATLANTA ! he fought in the war of 1812 and the indian seminole wars in florida in 1818. he maried elizabeth caldwell huchterson (a widow without any children) who was the daughter of curtis caldwell and sarah mcgowan caldwell. lindsey was quite a character. he left for northwest georgia in the year 1851 and promptly bought a mountain and named it after the family.ELSBERRY MOUNTAIN. he and elizabeth had 12 children.hey,all i know is what i read. anyway, they had five sons who all went into the civil war. all confederates. my great grandfather was zebulon elsberry 1rst seargent of the 40th georgia infantry compnay A,army of the tennesee. tow of his brothers died, one at home after being captured and imprisioned by the yankee after the fall of the city of vicksburg,ms. zebulon refused to sign the oath of alliagnce back to the union. the elsberry's in paulding county were wiped out and ruined for everything that had not been stolen was burned. he fought at the battle of new hope church, within 1/2 mile of his home. he remarried at the age of 65 and had three more children. my grandfather was his youngest, patrick elsberry. my mother, frances elsberry langston, was his youngest child. i am the youngest child in my family as well as the last of patrick's grandchildren. there's over 130 years in between my birth and zebulon's but i had the pleasure of hearing civil war stories 2ncd hand and i am only 40 now! here is the best part!!!!!!!! i am working with the state of georgia and the local scv group out of paulding county in having a georgia historical marker erected in the spring of 1999 to honor the 135th anniversary of the battle of new hope church. both northern and southern troops,re-enactors of course, are al invited to attend. i am also sending an universal invitation to all elsberry's,elsbury's, whatever to attend the cermonies next may. paulding county, is only 45 minutes northwest from atlanta's airport. i have made sure lindsey elsberry has a war veterans marker on his grave, i think he and the rest of the hundreds of elsberry's still here in georgia would love to have all of yall to visit. you can write me at :connie langston 924 roberts way,lawrenceville,georgia 30043 or send me an email at conlangston@yahoo.com OR conlangston@xoommail.com i look forward to hearing from all of you. i am creating a webpage to appeal to the elsberry's of georgia to donate for the marker. it has to be paid before i sign the final paper work to haveit delivered. please let me know if any of you would like to attend. it si going to be fun,interesting and very moving. civil war uniforms, food lots of food, and entertainment from live music, 1860's. just practice to learn DIXIE and you can be admited to the georgia family! thanks and warmest regards to all of yall.connie
