James Read Elrick was born September 11, 1818 in Wheeling, Va.

Both his parents, Jacob H Elerick and Ann Read Elerick were born in Pa.

James moved with his family from Wheeling to Belmont County, Ohio in 1827. They stayed 1 year and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and two years later moved to Hamilton, Ohio where they remained the rest of their lives.

James married Mary L Wood or Woods in 1846 and had seven children. Two daughters survived him when he died at the age of 99 in Hamilton, Ohio.

His Father Jacob died Oct 22, 1852 in Hamilton, Ohio. He was a carpenter and builder by trade and passed his skills on to his son James.

According to Jamesís obituary, his father Jacob H. Elrick was said to be a direct descendant of George Read, signer of the Declaration of Independence. This may be incorrect as his Mother Ann Read most probably was the descendant.

I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has information on this family.
