When checking census records from the 1800's you have to realize that the people who were doing the recording did not always know how to spell. I have traced my g-grandfather from 1850 till 1910 and his name is not spelled the same in any of them. In 1850 he is listed as Mc Kendree, 1860 McKender, 1870 as McKendrick, 1880 McKendree, 1900 as Mack R, 1910 as M.R.. On one of my families the census taker listed them as being from Mazura.
You have to know they spelled phonetically and not correctly.
