The only History I have is as follows as told to me mainly by my grandmother. If anyone can add any details please feel free. George Elms (Head of Family, my great great grandfather) lived in Newbury Berkshire had 3 sons and 3 daughters married twice two lines. He owned a substantial building firm which built the grandstand at Newbury Racecourse in the early 1900's. Friend of the Earl of Carnavon (Highclere House) who was his patron. He set his sons up with businesses building related like a brickmaking business. Unfortunately wine women song and gambling caused 2 of his sons to lose their small fortunes including my great grandfather (forgotten the name perhaps Harry). The third son Jessie was not trusted by his father as he was the wildest of the bunch. His legacy was held in a resulting protective trust so he could not fritter the money away only the interest. My grandfather went to visit George (the head of the family)on his death bed and the old man took a liking to him. He sympathised that his father had already blown his inheritance and said that should anything happen to Jessie the trust would pass to my grandfather. Fortunately, for our line but unfortunately for Jessie he was tragically killed in a terrorist bomb attack in a London Hotel caused by the Jewish Stern gang terrorist organisation. My grandfather William 'Bill' Elms nickname Harry Elms (married to Bessie Louise nee Lewsley b 1901,) received the inheritance which allowed him to become a major shareholder in an electric lighting business called Linelux along with a Mr Turpey?. He drove a Jaguar SS sportscar lived in North London Crouch end and later Southgate (Netherby Gardens) It was a state of the art business providing secluded lighting and had Buckingham Palace and Clarence House as customers. My grandfather died of lung cancer in 1970 and was survived by my father Norman Elms (b1929 d 1998). My granfather was ousted as MD in a boardroom struggle and retired to Worthing Sussex. Norman Elms married Beatrice Margaret Betton (b 1926 d 1980) in 1963 and had me Martyn Beaumont Elms in 1965. My father worked for the London Electricity board and then moved to Sussex working for Seeboard in Horsham for many years. We lived in Findon Valley where I grew up and went to school. He took early retirement and used his lump sum to buy the Delmar Hotel in Worthing on the seafront which he ran with his second wife Jennifer nee Fitzhugh (my stepmother) whom he married in 1982 after the death of my mother. The Hotel was sold a couple of years ago. My stepmother retired to Cliftonville Kent. I went to Durham University (1986-1989)read law came to London and was involved in publishing head hunting and eventually broking. I now live in Notting Hill London W11 with my wife Melanie Jane nee Windle. I work as a broker in the city for Prebon Marshall Yamane. I understand Beaumont is a family name and that someone of that name died in a whirlpool in Australia? Notify Administrator about this message?
