Your William Elmore b. 1760 had an uncle named John Elmore, Sr. b. January 22, 1724/25 who had also moved into the Brunswick Co. area. Brunswick Co. VA "Elmore to MARTIN for L20 current Virginia Currency an estimated 92 acres bounding William Martain's property. Lying in Brunswick County on the north side of middle Ceder Creek and bounded as followeth: Beginning at a corner white oak on the north side of Midle Ceder Creek from thence along William Martains line to a corner white oak on the county line from thence along the county line to a corner poplar on a branch from thence down the said branch to Midle Ceder Creek from thence down the said creek to the beginning. 7 September 1764. John Elmore- L. S. Mary her X mark Elmore L. S. In the presence of Robert Moore, Valentine Moore, Philemon Lucy (really Lacy). This William Martin Sr. was my ancestor. I have continued to trace Elmores because they drifted (along with my Martin's, Lindsey's, Lacy's, Moore's, and Carlton's) into Orange/Chatham Cos. before the Rev. War finally into Lincoln/Rutherford/Cleveland Cos NC after the War. Anyway, John Elmore, Sr. b. January 22, 1724/25 and your ancestor, James Elmore b. 1736 were both sons of Peter Elmore Jr. b. June 09, 1700 and an unknown mother. Are there any clues as to who this mother was? Also, this Peter Elmore Jr. was in New Kent and then Henrico. He lived on the Chickahominy R. and was a neighbor of Martin Martin. I wonder if this Peter married a daughter of Martin Martin's? There is a 7 year gap between the time Martin Martin married Sarah Hicks and the time they had their first reported child. This seems odd to me. Also, Peter Elmore Sr. b. 1672 m. Rebecca Harris was said to have come from York Co. VA. Isn't York Co. fairly close to Lancaster Co. VA? Peter's father was said to be Thomas b. 1642 and the grandson of Peter Elmore b. 1615. Is this Peter b. 1615 the same Peter found in the following deed: 1664 Apr 5 - Abraham Bus (Bush?) & Peter Elmore, 300 acres on N side Lancaster Co. 5 April 1664, p199 (94), Transported 6 persons: WILLIAM MARTIN, Henry Dame, Jno Rogers, George Huis or Avis, Edward Fitt, by Jno Pole. Cavaliers and Pioneers (Nugent), p458. (can someone find a better transcription of this?) If anyone wants to discuss early Elmore's in VA. please contact me directly: jmartin@fairfield.com
