LAURA J. WALLACE was born in Tuscaros County, Ohio, July l3, l872, and died at her late home near Weldon, November ll, l92l, aged l7 years and 4 months (Note: I copied this exactly as it was written -- but her age would have been closer to 49 if the dates are correct. Nancee) She came to Clarke County, Iowa, with her parents in l882, and resided on a farm near Smyrna until her marriage to JOHN E. WALLACE, March 6, l897. Although of the same name, they were not related.
She had been failing in health for the last two years, and for the past six months, her life has been that of an invalid. She struggled almost against the possibility of hope, with all her own strong will and the devoted care of her husband and the best medical skill, to become well again. During all these weary months, she has exhibited the most beautiful patience and courage. It was evident that she loved her life as was natural, yet when she found at last that the contest was useless, she calmly faced death and met it without a murmur.
She was loved sincerely and our grief cannot be expressed, yet we would not have missed in our lives the joy and happiness she gave to us. MRS. WALLACE was preceded in death by her parents, MR. and MRS. ISAAC WALLACE. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her loss, one son, FORREST; five brothers, A.S. and A.W., of Weldon, Iowa; W.S., of Cedarwood, Colorado; J.D., of Stanfield, Oregon; I.V., of Douglas, Wyoming; and two sisters, MRS. HATTIE ELMORE, of Osceola, Iowa, and MRS. MARY MYERS, of Marshalltown, Iowa. Also eleven nephews and eight nieces and a host of distant relatives and friends who will remember her many virtues and cherish her memory as the years go by.
She was converted when a young girl and united with the United Brethren Church at Smyrna, but after her marriage transferred her membership to the M.E. Church at Weldon and has ever remained a devoted member. She loved the Sunday School and each and every Sunday found her in her place, eager and ready to do whatever would be for the betterment of the Sabbath School. A noble life such as hers' will inspire those about her to emulate her example. To her sorrowing husband and motherless boy the tenderest sympathy of the community is extended in this, their hour of grief.
The funeral was held from the Methodist Church in Weldon with Rev. Larrick conducting the services. A very large crowd was in attendance. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful. She was laid at rest in the Hebron Cemetery.

We desire to express our sincere thanks for the assistance and sympathy extended to us during the saddest hours of our bereavement caused by the death of a loving companion and mother. For the consoling words of the minister, for the music and the beautiful flowers, we are deeply grateful.
