Have been unsucessful locating father of Stephen Elmore b. 1785 in VT. He appears in the 1810 census in Henderson, Jefferson Co., NY as Elmore. Stephen died 1860 and is buried Bishop Street Cemetery in Henderson. After the 1810 census he was listed as Elmer.

Also in the 1810 census for Henderson, there was a Benjamin and a John listed as Elmer. No further record of Benjamin. John d. 1849 at age 33 and is buried in the Bishop Street Cemetery.

I have not been able to find the connection between these 3 Elmers.
