I have found my Lewis Elmer in Jefferson Co., New York on the 1860 Census. He is with a 1st wife named Sophronia, her surname is unknown. Also listed are children George E. Elmer, age 3 and daughter Emma Elmer age 2. Lewis was age 31 and born in New York. Wife Sophronia was listed as age 28 and b. in Lower Canada.
Lewis Elmer is listed later on the 1870 Census living in Oakland Co., Michigan with new wife Jane A. Elmer and children: George,b.1857; Emma, b. 1858; Edward, b. 1861;
Alfred, b. 1863, Sarah J., b. 1864; Melissa, b. 1868 all in New York, Almeta, b. Feb. 1869 in Oakland Co., Mich.; Viola, b. 1871 Oakland Co., Mich.; Rosa M., b. Feb. 15, 1873 in Pontiac, Wayne Co., Mich.; Lillie, b. 1878 Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Mich.; Birdie May, b. 1878 Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Mich.; and last Robert b. aft. 1878 also b. Grand Rapids Kent Co., Mi.
Lewis Elmer was a Stone Mason and d. in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., Mich. in 1913. as did wife Jane A. Henderson Elmer.
I would very much like to find any one with family ties to any of the listed children or the family of Lewis Elmer, His Death Cet. listed father as Alin Elmer and Sarah. I can find no listing for any Alin Elmer. Unknown if Lewis had any brothers or sister. But I would think so.
Also like to hear from any one with Elmer in Jefferson Co., New York.
