Fred Ellsworth Sutton, b. 6-10-1860, MI, son of PETER DEGARMO SUTTON, b. 6-6-1834, Ulster Co., NY, and MARY ALDEN ALLEN, b. 2-28-1841, Dublin, IN, may be my clue to help crack through the brick wall represented by his mother and his paternal grandfather (Henry C. Sutton). Henry C. Sutton and Elizabeth DeGarmo married 3-24-1824, Hyde Park, Dutchess Co., NY. Son Peter is in the 1850 census in Parish, Oswego Co., NY (next to Dutchess). Also in a neighboring county in 1850 is FREDERICK ELLSWORTH in Canaan, Columbia Co., NY. Fred Ellsworth Sutton had a brother, William Van Vleet Sutton, b. 10-29-1868, MI. There was also a WILLIAM VAN VLEET in Hudson, Columbia Co., NY in 1850. I realize this is a reach, but Fred Ellsworth Sutton's name came from somewhere!
