I'm trying to find any history of my Mother's family. My Grandfather's name was Edward Earl Ellsworth and he made his living as a carpenter/painter. I find teasing records of Ellsworths in Baltimore in the 1800's that are given a carpentry profession (possibly a family trade?). My Great-grandparents (Benjamin Neal Ellsworth and Florence Med(d)ers Ellsworth), and Great-great-grandmother (Nonnie Med(d)ers "Wife of Michael Med(d)ers" (Although their gravestones are marked with one "d", I've come to believe that they were actually "Medders") I know nothing about them other than where they are buried (in Saint Peter and Paul's Cemetery, Cumberland, MD.) I guess this would indicate they were Catholic-my Grandfather was. My Grandfather died in 1977 when I was 12 (after his death, I made up an extensive family tree but couldn't go back any further) My Mother died suddenly several years ago, so now I have no further clues to to my ancestry. In their memory, I'd like to locate some more history. I've also found an Edward Ellsworth, jailed in Baltimore in the early 1800's, owing a large sum of money to New York City, and I see a huge Ellsworth population in New York. I'm wondering if this Edward might have fled NY, ended up in Baltimore, and started a legacy here in MD. The first Ellsworth I can find in records for this area (and I'm fairly sure must be an relative of mine) is William Ellsworth, born in Frederick, MD around 1865 and married to a Stacie A. Shinholt (also from Frederick) in Cumberland,MD around 1895 (He would have been about 30 at the time-could he have been previously married with children? Early (and multiple) marriages and early deaths were common for the time period. My Grandfather was born July 10, 1912. I wonder if this William could have been a Father (or maybe Brother) to Bejamin Neal Ellsworth. I know I'm grasping at straws here, but my available records have given me so little so far. If anyone has any information which may be of help here, please contact me! Thanks, Terry Craig Notify Administrator about this message?
